PROVIDER : Wetland Soils Course (SWS International Chapter meeting)COURSE TITLE : An integrating perspective of wetlands in environmental impact assessment: advances in Chilean regulations
INSTRUCTORS
Diana Isabel Quevedo Tejada
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course "An integrating perspective of wetlands in environmental impact assessment: advances in Chilean regulations" is a course where you will learn through 4 simple modules how Chile has been integrating the ecosystemic role of wetlands and their relationship in its regulatory and legal aspects with climate change. This vision of the Chilean government has been strongly developed during the last two decades, among others initiatives, through the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA-Chile) creation in 2010. SEA-Chile oversees that environmental evaluation of projects is adjusted to established in the current laws, normative and regulation, promoting, and facilitating citizen participation in the evaluation of projects. In recent years, especially since 2019, the Chilean Government and the SEA-Chile have incorporated technical, regulatory, and legal aspects that make it easier for all project owners to evaluate their projects environmentally, integrating wetlands and Protection Objects (OP) into this evaluation (like Water, Soil and Flora and Fauna) from a current and future ecosystem perspective, under climate change. In this way, anticipation of possible impacts is promoted and it is now easier to visualize prevention, adaptation and mitigation measures.
